Eastchester's Bravest Award Scholarships

The Eastchester Volunteer Fire Department awarded three scholarships to students from Eastchester, Tuckahoe and Bronxville. Each scholarship recipient received $1,500.

Tuckahoe's James Baker, Eastchester's Kevin Ryan and Bronxville's David Rotchford were delighted to be honored with the scholarships during a special ceremony at Ciao's restaurant in Eastchester.

Each Spring, the Eastchester Volunteer Fire Department works hard to make these special scholarships available. To receive a scholarship, students must have demonstrated leadership ability, as well as outstanding community service in their community.

"I can speak for almost everyone who feels we are just continuing the caring, compassion and consideration that we feel our neighbors and friends that live in our community deserve," said Eastchester Volunteer Fire Department Ex Deputy Chief and Secretary/Treasurer Dave Horne. "These monies came from a fundraiser we conducted in town two years ago, and it is our way of letting the community know that volunteerism is still alive in Eastchester."

Horne says that the students were thrilled to receive the scholarships from the Volunteer Fire Department, which has a long and proud history in the Town of Eastchester.

"The recipients, especially this year, could not have been more thankful," said Horne. "And to meet them in person this year was a joy. It makes us feel that our future is in very good hands after sitting down and chatting with the three gentlemen."
