Special Presentation: Italian American Artists and Their Contributions to the United States
Presented by Comm.
Professor Carlo Sclafani
Former Professor
and Chair of the Modern Languages Dept. at Westchester Community College
Soon after the U.S.
gained its independence, Italian artists began arriving in the new country.
They were called upon to paint ad decorate the new government buildings. This
illustrated lecture will introduce the audience to a number of Italian painters
and sculptors from the 19th and 20th centuries, focusing on the works they
created that are still visible today. With their genius and talent, they helped
to embellish a young country; their works remain true gifts for all to enjoy in
the United States today.
