IL Vangelo Secondo Matteo The Gospel According to St. Matthew

Pier Paolo
Pasolini's 1964 Biblical adaptation of the Gospel of Matthew is one of the
greatest retellings of the story of Christ, a cinematic rendering at once both
passionate and poetic. Filmed entirely in the rocky, southern portions of
Italy, and featuring a cast of non-professional actors, The Gospel According to St. Matthew was a revolutionary film that
empowered the story of Jesus. There were no grandiose colors; instead it was
all shot in black and white. Although the script adhered to the text of the
Matthew's Gospel in exacting fashion, "Gospel" was almost the
antithesis of all Christian epics before it. The screening will start promptly
at 6:30 with an intermission during which Professor Spedaliere will lead a
discussion with questions and answers. In Italian with English subtitles. |1964|137minutes|
