Ken Budd will speak about travel, purpose, and his critically-acclaimed book, The Voluntourist—A Six-Country Tale of Love, Loss, Fatherhood, Fate, and Singing Bon Jovi in Bethlehem, at 5:30pm and again at 7:00pm at the headquarters of Cross-Cultural Solutions in New Rochelle.

Book sales will go to the CCS Franco Lalama scholarship. Mr. Lalama was a Port Authority employee who lost his life on 9/11 leading the evacuation of engineering offices in One World Trade Center. The scholarship is being created with money from the book; all of Ken's earnings are going back to the places and organizations where he volunteered.

The Voluntourist tells the story of Ken's attempt to live up to his late father's life—while never being a father himself—by volunteering in New Orleans, Costa Rica, China, Ecuador, Palestine, and Kenya. Library Journal writes: “This is an extremely funny book… One of the best-written travel memoirs this reviewer has read in a long time.” Publishers Weekly calls The Voluntourist “a sincere and subtly written memoir,” The Record declares it “Incredibly funny—and deeply moving,” and Verge magazine pronounces it “Heart-warming… Unless you’re comfortable laughing loudly in public, you won’t want to read this on your daily commute.”

CCS is at 2 Clinton Place in New Rochelle. For more information go to:
