Brahms' German Requiem: Christopher Shepard / The Dessoff Choirs

Brahms famously burned
hundreds of early versions of pieces, sketches, even completed works that
didn’t meet his standard. But two renowned pieces have versions that escaped
the fire, and this concert breathes new life into these familiar, much-loved
works. The F Minor Piano Quintet had an earlier life as a two-piano sonata, and
Brahms recast his masterful Ein deutsches Requiem for four-hand piano for a
London performance in 1871. Featured at the keyboard for these challenging
works will be inimitable Midwinter Festival veterans Steven Ryan and Catherine
Venable.
