Marcotte Wins Independence Party Primary With Write-ins

Mary Jo Jacobs was endorsed by the Independence Party.

Westchester County Legislator Sheila Marcotte won the Independence Party primary election for county legislator for District 10.

The vote tally was an 118-47 in favor of Legislator Marcotte, who faced an uphill battle because her name was not on the ballot.

Her opponent—Mary Jo Jacobs—was endorsed by the Independence Party.

Legislative District 10 represents Eastchester, Tuckahoe and portions of New Rochelle. 

Marcotte said she grateful for the tremendous support she received from Independence party members across the district.

"This is a very gratifying victory for my campaign but more important, it is a victory for the principles of fair and honest elections," she said. 

"The true spirit of the Independence Party has been affirmed by the rank and file members," Marcotte said. "The huge margin of victory in this race is a clear rebuke to the back room-dealing and patronage-begging that the Independence Party bosses have engaged in."  

Marcotte will also appear on the Republican Party line on the November general election ballot. Jacobs will also appear on the Democratic Party line.
