One Lane of the SB Saw Mill May Open in the Morning

Repair work is finishing up on the water-main break that shut down four highways in southwest Westchester.

One lane of the southbound Saw Mill Parkway, closed after state contractors broke a 30-inch water main Aug. 27, may re-open by Wednesday morning—as may the Cross County Parkway ramp from Midland Avenue.

Yonkers city officials said repairs to the water main may be finished overnight.

However, the westbound Cross County Parkway at Central Avenue remains closed until further notice, as does the ramp to the Cross County from Route 100.

A boil water advisory issued Monday by the Westchester County Department of Health for southwest Yonkers will remain in effect at least through Aug. 30.

About 50,000 residents have been effected by the water restrictions, in some cases having no water at all.

For those who do have running water, the Westchester County Health Department is keeping a boil-water advisory in place for residents and businesses in the area south of Ashburton Avenue to the New York City line between the Hudson River and the Saw Mill River Parkway before drinking it or using it to prepare food.

The Journal News reported a custom coupling was made by the New York City Department of Environmental Protection to repair the ruptured main.
