“DESIGNING ENVIRONMENTALLY SOUND LANDSCAPES” DECEMBER 13

WHITE PLAINS, NY – There is still time to sign up for a seminar on “Designing Environmentally Sound Landscapes” to be held Friday, December 13, from 8 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Westchester County Center, 198 Central Avenue, White Plains.

Kim Eierman of Bronxville, the founder of EcoBeneficial!, a horticulture consulting and communications company, will be one of three featured speakers at the event.

The workshop is designed to teach homeowners, landscapers and municipal officials how to create landscapes that improve the quality of the environment. Other speakers will include Peter Trowbridge and Josh Cerra, both professors at Cornell University’s Department of Landscape Architecture.

Eierman’s talk, entitled “EcoBeneficial Landscaping: Going Beyond Sustainable,” will illustrate how traditional landscaping practices have actually damaged ecosystems.  She will show homeowners and landscape professionals how they can improve their ecosystems, not just sustain them. The net result can be bio-diverse landscapes with ecological balance, greater resistance to pests, diseases and extreme weather events, improved ecosystem services and reduced costs.
A Certified Horticulturist, Accredited Organic Landcare Professional,  Master Gardener and Master Naturalist, Eierman is also an Adjunct Professor at Westchester Community College and sits on the steering committee for The Native Plant Center.
