Scared to Testify? In Divorce Or Any Other Court...The In's & The Out's

Testifying Made Less Intimidating

1. Try not to be intimidated by the courtroom. Visit the courthouse before your case, so that it is familiar and will seem less menacing.
2.Testifying is really just telling a story. Develop a theme and theory of the case and be sure to create visual images for your audience (the judge) as you tell your story. Preparation is key.
3.Ask your lawyer to prepare a dozen questions he expects opposing counsel to ask. Ask your lawyer to develop questions he/she will ask you.
4. It is your ex's lawyer's job to win points on behalf of his/her client, your ex. So when she/he asks a question stop before you answer.
 a. that will give your lawyer time to object
OR
b.it will give you a chance to collect your thoughts
5.Conversely it is your lawyer's job to win points for his/her client, you. So when he asks a question answer it fully. This is your opportunity to tell your story.
