Red Barn Bakery's Fundraiser Off to a Good Start

The Red Barn Bakery in Irvington seeks to raise $26,000 in 30 days to order to obtain and install additional baking equipment. If it fails to reach this goal, all pledges and transactions will be voided.

With 23 days still to go, 50 backers have placed $6,600 in orders (25 percent of the total needed).

Backers who wish to help have a multitude of reward choices including many various-size packages of cookies. To earn a reward, an order can be placed online with a pledge from $5 to $2,500 at the "Kickstarter" website: www.kickstartthecookie.com.

The reward level for a giant Breakfast Cookie and cup of coffee at the bakery is $15; rewards increase in value to the top offer of a new cookie named after the donor at $2,500. A private party, including an array of desserts, fresh fruit and coffee or tea, starts at $1,200 (if held at the bakery) or $1,500 (if in a private home).

Many of the bakery's cookies can be shipped in packages to backers including:

Original Sayulita Breakfast Cookie. An 11-ounce all-organic cookie  made from delectable raisins, coconut, almonds, sunflower seeds, mango, papaya, whole wheat flour, eggs, oatmeal and brown sugar.

Gluten Free, Vegan Breakfast Cookie, An 11-ounce all-organic cookie made from brown rice flour, oatmeal, raisins, coconut, almonds, sunflower seeds, mango, papaya rice milk, palm oil and brown sugar.

"The funds we seek will be used to purchase a commercial mixer, a dishwasher, a third oven and a commercial grade dough sheeter," said Red Barn Bakery owner Randell Dodge, "$26,000 covers the cost of purchase and installation and the cost of reconfiguration of the kitchen for optimal productivity."

Kickstarter is a fundraising concept introduced four years ago by a company in New York City's Lower East Side. It has successfully funded many diverse projects including a thin, flexible wristwatch (over $1 million pledged), a video game console (over $8.5 million pledged), a 3D printer (nearly $3 million pledged) and a penny arcade (over one-half million dollars pledged).

To help Red Barn Bakery get the four pieces of equipment it needs, pledges can be made at: www.kickstartthecookie.com.
