Nonprofit Westchester Announces Newest Members

Nonprofit Westchester (NPW), an advocacy organization that represents 90 nonprofits in the county, recently announced that the following members joined it’s organization: Meals on Wheels of White Plains, Fine Arts Orchestral Society of Yonkers, Inc., the League of Women Voters of Westchester, Today’s Students Tomorrow’s Teachers, and the Westchester School for Special Children.

 

“We are pleased to see NPW memberships continue to grow,” said Joanna Straub, Executive Director of Nonprofit Westchester. “Nonprofits in the county see how beneficial it is to join an organization that helps advocate their mission and shed light on things that matter the most to them and their services.”

In addition to delivering meals to those in the community who are unable to shop for or prepare meals for themselves, Meals on Wheels of White Plains is a nonprofit organization made up of volunteers that provide companionship to people who otherwise might be alone all day.

The Fine Arts Orchestral Society of Yonkers, Inc. (FAOS) sponsors the Yonkers Philharmonic and is currently celebrating its 51st anniversary. FAOS is dedicated to exposing audiences to quality performance of classical music, provide cultural programs, and promote music education and appreciation throughout the community.

 

The League of Women Voters of Westchester based in Elmsford is a nonpartisan grassroots organization that promotes informed citizen participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.

 

With a vision to address teacher shortages and increasing the number of culturally diverse educators and other professionals, Today’s Students Tomorrow’s Teachers (TSTT) in White Plains recruits, mentors and trains culturally diverse and economically-challenged high school and college students and places them as teachers and leaders who strengthen schools and communities.

 

Founded in 1972 and recognized as a valued resource in the county, Westchester School for Special Children, based in Yonkers, provides interdisciplinary educational programs for disabled children to help them develop and maintain the skill, attitude and knowledge necessary to function productively and as independently as possible within a variety of settings.

 

NPW provides the nonprofit sector with a single unified voice for the role it plays in the economic vitality and sustainability of the county. Under a cooperative mission to learn, advocate and collaborate, the organization focuses on sharing resources, connections, and information to strengthen Westchester in partnership with the for-profit and government sectors.
