Mount Vernon, N.Y. – March 24, 2014 Julia B. Fee Sotheby’s International Realty announced today that the firm has listed a Colonial residence in the Aubyn Manor neighborhood of Mount Vernon, N.Y., designed in 1905 by architect Otto J. Gette of the early 20th-century architectural firm Marsh & Gette. Bronxville Brokerage agent Megan Stilwell-Posner is listing the property, which is offered at $2,849,000.

Gette, who was the president of the Westchester Society of Architects and a member of the New York State Association of Architects, utilized the farmhouse motif and drew upon the Pennsylvania Dutch style in the design of the home. The architect also completed a significant expansion to the residence in 1929.

Gette was a prolific architect in the early 20th century, designing municipal structures from bathhouses to parks and pools for the City of Yonkers and Westchester County. He was also active throughout New York City and Northern New Jersey, working on diverse projects from garages and fire escapes to low income housing to luxury residential structures.

With six bedrooms and four and a half baths, the Aubyn Manor home has a total of 6,700 square feet of living area, fully maintained and updated with new systems. The formal living and dining rooms feature original millwork, twin window alcoves with floor-to-ceiling paneling and moldings, and marble fireplaces with elaborate mantles. Additional spaces include a radiant-heated sunroom with views over the back terrace and gardens, family room with built-in cabinetry and fireplace, and kitchen with top-of-the-line appliances, marble counters, oversized island with counter seating and breakfast area.

“Defined by its turn-of-the-century elegance, gracious architecture and extraordinary millwork, this home is a rare find in Westchester County,” said Posner. “It is as comfortable and inviting as it is classically traditional, and it has been meticulously maintained and superbly updated for today’s lifestyle.”

The second-floor master suite has a bedroom with fireplace, tumbled marble master bath with steam shower and Jacuzzi, office/sitting room with garden views and room-sized closet/dressing room. The third floor offers multiple potential uses.

The house is situated on one acre within walking distance of Bronxville Village and the Bronxville Metro-North train station. For more information on the property, located at 21 La Porte Avenue, visit the firm’s website here.
