Village Vacuum in Bronxville Says Goodbye April 30

After 60 years serving the village of Bronxville, Owner Bob Philp will close his doors at the end of April and is looking forward to the next chapter in his life as a village handyman.

With a humble, hand written sign in the window of that reads "store closing April 30," longtime owner Bob Philp spent this past weekend reflecting on his decades in the village as patrons passed by his Kraft Ave. store, stunned and disappointed of his departure.

Saying that the constant increase in rent was the main reason for the store's closing, Philp's countenance ironically could not have been brighter as he nostalgically reflected on his time in the village and also on his new prospects as he hopes to serve Bronxville as a go-to-guy for home improvement projects and vacuum repair.

Opening up their doors originally next door to the up the block in November of 1952, the shop specialized not only in vacuum repair, but other home improvement supplies and quickly became a staple in the village as the years past on.

"I'm looking forward to the future and keeping busy with serving the village in the capacity of an on-call handyman," Philp stated as he assisted a constant stream of customers who were taking advantage of the sale prices on things such as light bulbs, small appliances and other household items.

Have an outlet in your home that needs repair? Any plumbing issues that need fixing? Or perhaps you have a slew of tiny jobs around the house from hanging pictures to small painting jobs.  Whatever the job, chances are Philp can help you out.

You will still be able to contact him by calling the Village Vacuum service number at 914-337-7070.

"I think I'm going to help the village out even more than I ever did now that I will have more time to be in more places," said Philp.

There was definitely a steady stream of customers in the store this past weekend so I suggest anyone who wants to find any bargains to make a stop at Village Vacuum before the end of April.

Unfortunately, local shopping is at an all time low in Bronxville. More stores will close in the next few monthsd. This results in lower sales taxes collected, fewer cars parking at meters and thus higher real estate taxes. Again the empty stores and the higher taxes result in lower property values. This causes lower sales prices and lower mortgages resulting in lower mortgage taxes collected; again further raising real estate taxes etc., etc., etc. SHOP LOCAL!!!!!!!!!

I agree Steven. I hope to spotlight as many of the local businesses in the Village as possible on Patch.

I HAVE KNOWN BOBBY PHILIPS SINCE WE WERE BOTH TEENAGERS AND HE IS A TERRIFIC GUY. PLEASE HELP HIM OUT BY HIRING HIM AS A PROFESSIONAL TRUSTWORTHY HANDYMAN. I AM SURE YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED .
