Operation Prom, a local agency that has helped thousands of high school students afford their senior proms, will celebrate its ninth anniversary tonight at Lake Isle County Club in Eastchester from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and among the invited guest with be Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino.
He will be joined by Operation Prom founder and Executive Director Noel D’Allaco, who has inspired others to create similar programs in Georgia, Texas, Florida, Colorado and New Jersey.
Westchester County, through its Department of Social Services, has lent its support to Operation Prom for three years now and has helped in locating families in need.
Operation Prom collects gently used prom dresses and distributes them to high school students who otherwise might not be able to afford to go to their proms. The agency also arranges free tuxedo rentals for boys in need.
Earlier this year, Astorino and Commissioner of Social Services Kevin McGuire received the agency’s Golden Tuxedo awards for their efforts.
Thursday’s event will also honor Westchester County salons that have supported Operation Prom by acting as dress drop off locations and offering their services to girls to have their hair done at no cost.
These honorees include: JK Flashy Makeup Services of Tarrytown and its owner, Jill Imbrogno; Le Loft Salon & Spa of Pleasantville and its owner Francesca Vendittelli; Nicholas Day Spa of Pelham and its owner, Nicholas J. Elezaj; and Salon Posh of Mamaroneck and its owner, Diane Mammana.
Operation Prom will also be showing off its new benefactors – the Miss New York and Miss USA pageants, which have named Operation Prom as one of the charities they will support. Contestants will donate dresses and attend other Operation Prom events.
