Bronxville, NY – More than 740 new and gently used coats were collected during the Junior League of Bronxville’s 2012 Holiday Coat Drive. Thanks to the generosity of residents in Bronxville, Yonkers, Tuckahoe, Eastchester, Mount Vernon, and surrounding communities, the men, women, and children supported by Community Service Associates (CSA) in Mount Vernon now have a coat to shield them from the Winter’s cold weather. Thanks to the tremendous response from the community, there were enough coats to also assist various other local service organizations.
On the heels of Hurricane Sandy, the Junior League of Bronxville continued a local service tradition that has become synonymous with the start of the holiday season and began their annual collection of gently used winter coats. There were concerns that the recent Hurricane Sandy relief efforts might limit the number of coat donations at a time when need increased exponentially, however the drive proved to be a huge success. This year's coat drive was led by the Junior League's Fall 2012 Provisional Class, including Dayle Bland, Jennifer Clemow, Sarah D'Amico, Brigitta Fenton, Jeannine Guido, Alice Newton and Nicole Smith.
Fenton, of the 2012 Provisional Class, said, “The Junior League is so thankful for the incredible spirit of giving in the community and grateful that so many people share the group’s passion for helping those in need."
The Junior League of Bronxville and the 2012 Provisional Class would like to thank all of the people who kindly donated a coat, as well as their community partners: the Bronxville Field Club, Bronxville Fitness Club, Bronxville Public School, Bronxville Library, Cube Smart of Tuckahoe, Avalon Community in Bronxville, DeCiccos Family Markets, Eco Green Cleaners, Parkway Cleaners, Mickey Spillane’s, Polpettina, Maggie Spillane’s, Gymboree Play & Music of Scarsdale and the Hudson Valley Bank for making this coat drive a huge success. They would also like to thank the volunteers at the CSA who assisted in the distribution of the coats, as well as Shane Bland and Wyatt Smith for their assistance in transporting the coats to CSA.
The Junior League's Annual Holiday Coat Drive is designed to benefit the patrons of the Community Service Associates (CSA) in Mount Vernon, New York. Community Service Associates is a not-for-profit, which provides breakfast, bagged lunches and hot dinners to over one hundred families in the Mount Vernon area daily. CSA also offers counseling, job training and placement, support for women and an after-school art program.
