The Secret to 'Our' Success: Peter Iocovello and Stephanie Filardi - Bronxville Wellness Sanctuary

Flexibility, focus, and well being all lead to the Bronxville Wellness Center.

If previous years are any indication, chances are you have made a resolution to jump-start your fitness regimen. If that usually means another gym membership, perhaps it’s time to take a different approach-- a holistic approach.

Peter Iocovello and Stephanie Filardi are health and wellness masters, who honed their craft previously at Balance Massage & Wellness and have combined their expertise as the owner/operators of .

Together with their team of professionals at the wellness center, they take a holistic approach to health and wellness, combining several aspects of massage, relaxation, nutrition, yoga and more. The programs offered include nutritional coaching for health and healing, weight loss, stress management and meditation.

Frequently, group programs and seminars are offered on such topics of interest as kicking the sugar habit, children’s health, aging gracefully and ultra self care.

Recently Patch had the opportunity to ask the two fitness gurus about their business:

Why did you choose this as your business?

Peter: To help people relax and connect their minds with their bodies through the nurturing touch of massage. I feel that our life styles are more about taking care of others and work than taking care of ourselves.

Stephanie: I believe life is short, and we all deserve to live well. For me, living well means taking care of our physical, mental and emotional body so we feel good and can enjoy life. Our business allows me to inspire others to do the same.

How did you get started in your business?

Peter: Simply wanted to help make a difference in people’s lives through the healing power of touch. My previous work was mechanical and isolating. The wellness industry allows for physical, mental and emotional growth for me.

Stephanie: After losing my father to a fatal attack, I decided to leave my corporate job. I no longer felt connected to my job and wanted to pursue a career where I could make a difference in people’s lives.

What was your toughest challenge to overcome?

Peter: Leaving a well paying job and family/friends not being supportive initially.

Stephanie: Leaving the security of a good job with people I enjoyed working with.

What's the thing you like most about your business?

Peter: To be able to make a difference in people’s lives, one person at a time. To help people connect their physical and emotional being.

Stephanie: Every single day I have the opportunity to help someone feel better and live better.  To me, there is no better gift than this.

What's the thing you dislike the most about your business?

Peter: There are not enough hours in the day to help people.

Stephanie: Sometimes I want to help someone more than they want to help themselves. In the long run, this doesn't work.

What makes you different from your competition?

Peter: Personalized approach to a better you. We listen to each client’s individual needs and customize each session accordingly. We truly help our clients achieve optimal health.

Stephanie: We believe a holistic approach is key to achieving optimal health. By incorporating all aspects of well being into our program, we make our clients’ self care our priority.

Our holistic approach embodies both spa and wellness services: massage, facials, nutritional coaching, lifestyle management and private yoga. We are also committed to being responsible stewards to the environment. Therefore, all of our products are green, organic, paraben free and never tested on animals.

What suggestions would you have for someone who wants to go into business today?

Peter: If you have a strong vision, pursue it. When obstacles come along, learn more skills to overcome them. All no's lead to yes!

Stephanie: First, make sure you are doing what you love. Keep your vision strong and refer to it daily. Don't expect everyone to see what you see. Surround yourself with positive people. Seek out several mentors who can help you establish a business plan.

What is the secret to your success?

Peter: Being client centered and 100% focused on the person’s individual needs. Being flexible and open.

Stephanie: I focus on how I can help others. I don't focus on myself. I am always finding ways to show people I care. I give tough love when needed and make sure every person who meets me knows I am deeply committed to their success.
