Bronxville Celebrates Rodin Exhibit at Concordia

View portrait sculptures by Auguste Rodin and enjoy dining, performances and other special offers from local businesses.

From the Bronxville Chamber of Commerce:

The Bronxville Chamber of Commerce announces “Rodin in Bronxville,” a community-wide celebration of an exhibition of Auguste Rodin portrait sculptures this fall at OSilas Gallery at Concordia College on Route 22 in Bronxville. In honor of this special exhibition, which runs through November 27, 2013, 43 Bronxville businesses--including restaurants, shops, services, and organizations--are participating in the festivities.

This once-in-a-lifetime exhibition—The Bronze Age: Rodin & the Methods of a Master--will offer fortunate visitors the opportunity to view Rodin bronze portrait sculptures on loan from the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Foundation. Also featured will be ten models displaying Rodin’s casting of the renowned sculpture Sorrow-- on loan from the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Rarely does a suburban gallery have the chance to feature the work of such a world-renowned artist. To celebrate, participating Bronxville businesses will offer a variety of events and specials. Visitors have only a 3-minute drive from OSilas Gallery to the Bronxville business district, where they can experience first-rate restaurants with French-theme meals, stores with French merchandise, performances of French music, classes such as The Art of French Entertaining, and more.

“Having an exhibition of this caliber in Bronxville is incredibly thrilling,” said Bronxville Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Susan Miele. “Community businesses are planning very creative ways to pay tribute to this important event so that gallery-goers can enjoy both the exhibition and the many benefits of Bronxville.”

In conjunction with this exhibition, OSilas Gallery will offer several special events, including a demonstration of the historic “lost wax casting process” that Rodin’s used; a day trip to the Rodin Museum in Philadelphia (in partnership with The Bronxville Adult School); and a birthday party in honor of what would have been Rodin’s 173rd birthday--which will include a raffle drawing. To enter the raffle, one simply attends the Rodin exhibition and spends a minimum of $5.00 with 5 participating Bronxville businesses (cards are validated by each). To date, 12 valuable prizes have been generously donated by participants.
