'World's Largest Selection of Beer' Opens in Westchester

Written by Michael Woyton

After turning away about 150 people over the last few days, the doors to Half Time, with the world's largest selection of beer, are open in Mamaroneck.

Located at 139 Hoyt Ave., Half Time boasts 20,000 square feet of micro and macro beers, international beers and the components to make your own beers.

Director of Operations Jason Daniels said the store will eventually have its grand opening, he encouraged people to stop by now and browse aisle after aisle of their inventory, which is being added to on a daily basis.

He said they had hoped to open the store in time for Thanksgiving and Christmas, but getting the store finished, the supplies in and the staff fully trained made that not possible.

"We want people to have a good experience from the very beginning," Daniels said.

There are currently 20 employees, he said, and an additional five will likely be hired.

The Mamaroneck location was chosen for a number of reasons, Daniels said: square footage, a central location in Westchester County, two parking lots and ease of access, including close proximity to the Mamaroneck train station.

"We felt that this was the home run," he said.

Besides Budweiser, Coors, Heineken, Corona and other macro beers, there are ciders from around the world, craft beers and beers from south of the border, France, Asia, Canada and Italy, to name a few.

Daniels said beer patrons can come in and tell the staff what kind of beer they are looking for and will get guidance on what they might enjoy.

"Our goal is for you to come to the store and try something you've never tried before," Daniels said.

There are 20 different gift baskets from which to choose, and gift baskets can be made to order.

Growlers are available for purchase and can be filled with one of 20 different beers on tap. The selection of beers is rotated.

People aren't limited to six packs or cases of the same beer, Daniels said. Scattered throughout the store are "6 Pack Holders," in which customers can pick and choose different brews.

"You should leave the with whatever you want," he said.

Soon to come will be cigars and tobacco products. There are also unique pretzels, chips and candies available for purchase.

Daniels said Half Time is ready to meet the needs of area residents for New Year's Eve.

"The doors are open and we finally made it," he said.

Half Time is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Their website is located here.
