Westchester-Based Vintology Wine & Spirits Launches Wine Education Classes

From Vintology Wine & Spirits:

For five years the wine team at Vintology Wine & Spirits has received the same question: “When are you going to have wine classes?”  Now that Vintology has settled into its new larger shop, the team can finally respond to community demand.  Vintology 101, a new class series, kicks off in early February.  “You’ll love the homework,” says Dean Morretta, Proprietor.

The local community had a real hand in inspiring this class series.  Class themes were developed around the most common questions the Vintology team receives on the sales floor.  “Every day our customers share their curiosity about wine,” shared Elizabeth Miller, Manager.  “They ask us great questions, and we are turning all of those conversations and our answers into Vintology 101, an educational, approachable and affordable series of classes.”

February 13th kicks off the first class with “How to Talk About Tasting.” Attendees will taste through three wines and consider terms like body, tannin, oak and finish.  The Vintology team hopes students will be able to determine and explain their personal taste, to better successfully select wines they love.

Two additional classes, “How to Read a Wine Label” and “Grape Focus: All About Cabernet Sauvignon” are scheduled for February 27th and March 20th, with more classes coming.  All classes are affordable at $25 per person, and include three tasting wines.

Morretta and Miller look forward to teaching curious wine lovers.  Morretta has 20+ years in the business with experiences ranging from wine buying to importing, before opening Vintology in 2008.  Miller, formerly of Blue Hill at Stone Barns and Red Hat on the River, joined Morretta in 2011 as Manager. Miller’s training began at the American Sommellier Assocation, and she is a Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW) through the Society of Wine Educators.

Interested wine lovers may call Vintology Wine & Spirits, located at 2 Palmer Ave. in Scarsdale, at 914-723-2040 to reserve a class. Full information can be found at www.vintology.com.
