Lyndhurst Wants Your Blood, Literally

Among the many October offerings at Lyndhurst is your chance to give back by being a blood donor.

“Time is bleeding away,” says the latest e-newsletter from Lyndhurst, promoting all the good dark stuff happening there now through the end of the month and beyond.

Lyndhurst After Dark (or less dark by day) features special tours "with a twist" through October 31. Find out more and buy tickets here.

Then on two Saturdays Dark Shadows fans can get signed 8x10s or bring their own memorabilia for signing, just for a donation of any size to Lyndhurst. This happens in the welcome tent near the parking area.

  • On Oct. 20, meet Sharon Smyth, little Sarah Collins from the original "Dark Shadows" TV show, from 11 am - 4 pm
  • On Oct. 27, meet Jim Fyfe, Willie Loomis from the 1991 "Dark Shadows" series, from 1 pm - 4 pm

Scarecrows have invaded the lawns of Lyndhurst and it’s truly quite a sight. (From a distance, I thought there was a huge crowd of zombies overtaking the grounds). These are not your average scarecrows – many are actually scary; all are very creative. It's free to see them and wander the beautiful grounds during daylight hours, also through Oct. 31

If 300 local students’ creations aren’t enough for you, there’s contemporary artist interpretations of scarecrows on view in the “bones” of Lyndhurst's dramatic Greenhouse now through November 11. Also free to see.

Finally, and most importantly, Lyndhurst announces:

VE VANT TO SUCK YOUR BLOOD

No joke! Did you know that someone needs a blood transfusion every three seconds?

A Phelps Memorial Hospital blood drive will take place in the Lyndhurst Chauffeur's Building on Tuesday, Oct. 30 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. They need 30 healthy human beings who weigh at least 110 pounds to sign on... Barnabas would if he could...

To be a Halloween donor (costumes optional, but welcome!) contact: Christine Plazas at 914-631-4481 ext 43226 or cplazas@savingplaces.org. Or contact me, your Patch Editor (since Patch is also a sponsor) at 914-236-0306 or krista.madsen@patch.com. Click here if you want more information about donating blood.

Bring a buddy. Eat and drink before you come. This goes faster (and easier) than you might think, and what a setting to do a good deed in. I’ll see you there!
