Rides, games, local food and merchant vendors, live entertainment, a parade and fireworks by Grucci are part of the Eastchester Columbus Day Celebration Committee’s traditional Columbus Day weekend celebration. The festivities began Friday night with a carnival at Lake Isle County Club that runs through Monday and is part of the 37th Annual Italian Heritage Celebration for 2011.
“We are grateful to our town residents and sponsors for their support each year and making our event one of the most anticipated events in Westchester County,” said Karen Gizzo Campanile, committee chair. “Our vendors who are mostly merchants and residents in the town and villages also benefit from this event . . . to promote Italian Heritage and to ensure that family traditions are recognized."
Test your skill at basketball or dunk someone in a tub of water, check out the ferris wheel or scream as you're turned upside-down. Games and rides are provided by Stewart Amusement Co., Inc. Admission is free, and free parking is available in the Vernon Hills Shopping Center. Admission to the carnival is free, but you can buy an unlimited-ride wristband for $25 on Saturday and Sunday between 1 and 7 p.m.
