Check this out from New York State's open government data website.

By Katie Ryan O'Connor

There aren't many surprises on this list, especially for those who routinely use the Tappan Zee Bridge during rush hour.

But what is surprising is that the Lower Hudson Valley is home to nearly as much traffic as roads within New York City.

We took the latest data available from New York State (2011) and pulled out local roads. Take a look at our slideshow.

Curious about the busiest and least busy in the entire state? We have that covered for you, too.

Least Busy
With a tie for 3 cars average per day, we have two dead ends:

  • Bruce LaTourret — that's the listed name of the road — in the Town of Tompkins in Delware County
  • Gleason Road in the Town of Clare in St. Lawrence County. (Which shares a border with Canada)

Busiest Road in New York
Drum roll...it may suprise you:
  • With an average of 200,446 cars per day we have the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway and NY 440 near the Victory Boulevard Exit and the Bayonne Bridge in Staten Island
