Rebecca Blanco Receives Hess Award

Bronxville, NY- On Sunday June 8th, Rebecca Blanco, a senior at Bronxville High School, was awarded the Robert P. Hess Memorial Order of St. Philip Achievement Award. The honor was presented during the Baccalaureate Service at the Village Lutheran Church.

Mr. Robert P. Hess was the Minister of Music at the Village Lutheran Church from 1987 to 1995. He loved Christ and sought to make worship beautiful and meaningful.  During his tenure he began to organize crucifers and torchbearers into a program named The Order of St. Philip, and his dream was that young people might serve the church in this way for years to come. In 1995, Mr. Hess’ life was cut short through senseless violence.  During his ministry, Mr. Hess encouraged people to look to Jesus, God’s Son, so that they might find salvation. Through the award, the eternal life of Mr. Hess is celebrated, and young people are encouraged to continue in the tradition that Robert Hess demonstrated in his earthly ministry. Rev. Dr. Robert Hartwell commented, “Honoring a young person who demonstrates leadership and commitment to excellence in worship is such a beautiful way to remember Bob Hess. Rebecca is a wonderful role model and we are proud of her dedicated effort.”

Village Lutheran Church is located at 172 White Plains Road in Bronxville.  For more information about the church and its programs call 914-337-0207 or visit www.VLC-NY.ORG
