Groom Spot Wants All Pets to have Pearly Whites!

TUCKAHOE, NY February 3, 2014 – It is a task that is always included in your morning routine, but is often overlooked when it comes to your pet… Teeth brushing. February has been designated the time to start thinking about your pet’s dental health.  Local grooming salon, Groom Spot, is celebrating National Pet Dental Health Month, by offering packages that focus on dental health. "Good pet owners are concerned about their pets’ health and are careful to keep their vaccinations up to date, but may forget about the importance of oral health. Great owners know that this is a big mistake, as periodontal disease is the most common health problem that veterinarians find in pets,” explains Dr. Douglas Aspros, president of the AVMA.

“We love all dogs, every shape and size, and want them to have a great grooming experience. We want them leaving our salon not only looking their best but feeling their best,” stated Julie Zwisdak, co-owner of Groom Spot. It is important to get your dog in a routine and comfortable with teeth brushing from an early age. “Even though your new puppy may have baby teeth, you want to introduce them to the brush so over time they view it as a fun special treat,” said Lawrence Van Nostrand co-owner of Groom Spot. Vistors to the salon are often greeted by Groom Spot’s “mascot” Maeby. This rescue dog was adopted by Julie and Larry and can often been seen “hard at work” at Groom Spot. “We brush her teeth once a week,” stated Julie.

Dr. Aspros noted “Dental health problems are extremely common, and many are very painful and can lead to serious systemic conditions. I remind pet owners that an untreated dental infection can spread to the heart, kidneys and other organs, and suddenly become life threatening.” During the month of February Groom Spot is offering a teeth brushing special. Each treatment includes a good brushing and breath freshener. “That odor might signify a serious health risk, with the potential to damage not only your pet's teeth and gums but its internal organs as well.” (avma.org) The salon also sells toothbrushes, rinses, and special dog appropriate cleaner. “Our teeth brushing package is designed to help remove plaque and tartar. Our services are here to supplement your home routine.”
