'Checkmate!' Chapel School Welcomes Chess Wizards Camp

Bronxville, NY- For many kids, summer vacation is a time of extra excitement and fun, but that doesn’t have to mean that their education stops. The Chapel School in Bronxville is offering a Chess Wizards camp for children in grades 2 through 8. The week long program will run August 4th through the 8th.  Summer chess camps offer a great opportunity for kids to make friends, get better at chess and improve their critical thinking skills. Chess is the perfect summer learning tool because kids can keep their minds sharp while playing a game and having fun.

Chess Wizards is a premier chess education company providing fun, informative and challenging chess lessons to students. Chess Wizards teaches children many important life concepts, such as learning the ability to win graciously and accept defeat with dignity and sportsmanship. Students will be divided into groups according to their chess experience. At the end of the week, each student will have had the chance to participate in a mini-chess tournament.

The camp is not only educational but also “a lot of fun,” according to the players. “Chess is a game that can be enjoyed by everyone. It encourages socialization skills that extend across cultures and generations.” (The National Scholastic Chess Foundation) Attendees of the camp will not only learn about the game of chess. They will also develop skills that they will carry with them throughout their life. Chess requires self-discipline and determination. The game also reinforces problem-solving and critical thinking skills, while teaching players about good sportsmanship. “It’s amazing seeing these young children strategizing and carefully planning out their moves,” said one Chapel School staffer.  The game of chess is highly precise and logical. It requires players to strategize, concentrate, analyze and evaluate their decisions and moves. According to the NSCF, research has found that students who play chess increase their spatial-reasoning abilities and have a more highly developed visual memory
