Chapel School Campers “Multiply” their Math Skills

            Bronxville, NY- Math is a subject that one may love or hate. Many children struggle with multiplication, fractions, and word problems. “Learning Math is like building a snowball, each new concept builds and expands on previously learned material,” stated Kim Zwisdak, a local Math tutor. The Chapel School’s Explorer Camp is excited to welcome the staff of Mathnasium in Scarsdale to their campus to offer 3 weeks exploring the wonderful world of Math in a fun and active environment!

            Campers can sign up for one or all three weeks of camp. The camp director scheduled the Math camp later in the season to help ease the transition from summer back into school. The camp will run from July 28th  – August 1st , August 4th - August 8th , and August 11th - August 15th , from 9:00 am – noon each day. Each week costs $300. The first week will focus on multiplication. In the second week they will explore the world of fractions. In the final week students will discover new and simple math strategies and techniques to help your child (of varying abilities and ages) prepare for and excel in the coming school year. They will gain a love for the subject that they never knew they had!

According to a study by John Hopkins University, students on average, lost approximately 2.6 months of grade level equivalency in math over the summer months. This summer they can continue to make great progress without the pressures of homework or school. At The Chapel School’s “Mathnasium” Camp, your child will not only retain his or her math knowledge, they will gain confidence and understanding for the next school year.
