An Easter Seals Love Story

Easter Seals feels lucky in having so many great supporters who give so much to others by supporting our organization. Two of those supporters are Shivaram and Anjali Kumar. The Kumar’s and their many family members are some of the largest contributors to Easter Seals New York.

This great couple grew up just a few miles apart in Mumbai, India, but did not meet until both of them moved thousands of miles away and came to the United States.  Kumar was seeking his Masters Degree in Computer Engineering at Drexel University, in Philadelphia, and Anjali was in the travel business working with American Express. She had come to the US for a family gathering and stayed for a career.  They met at a business seminar, which changed both their lives forever.

This dynamic and dedicated couple became leading business people, with companies like Amway and the Britt Worldwide Educational System.  Mr. Kumar is part of the BWW Management Operating Committee and the Amway Independent Business Owners Association Board. This gave them the independence to give their family both financial security, and also time to be a family.  Many people might have been satisfied with this lifestyle, but the Kumar family knew there was more to life than just personal satisfaction.

The Kumar family is deeply involved in giving generously of their time and resources to a number of great organizations. Shivaram Kumar is a founding member of the We Live To Give Foundation based in New Jersey, which like Easter Seals aids children with Autism or other developmental problems.  The US Dream Academy is also one of the efforts they support. Not forgetting his roots, Shivaram is also on the Board of Advisors of the Global Success Foundation, working on employment initiatives for youth and seniors in India.

Shivaram Kumar is a noted leadership and team builder, recognized for his commitment to everything he does, his family, his friends, his business, his community and his country.  We at Easter Seals New York know that commitment because we have seen it time and time again. The many people helped by Easter Seals will never know what Shivaram and Anjali Kumar have done for them, but we know what they have done and we thank them for those many people.

Yes, we at Easter Seals feel lucky and glad that they met, because besides raising three wonderful daughters, Devika, Tarika, and Ritika, they still have room in their loving hearts for other children who come from families without the resources that they have, and that is a real love story.
