BRONXVILLE, N.Y., November 19, 2012 – Sarah Lawrence College has been selected by Rush Day Camp as the location for its summer day camp for the 2013 season. This will not be just any summer camp – this Cathy Rush summer day camp experience is being specifically developed to take full advantage of Sarah Lawrence’s premiere facilities and picturesque campus. For more than 40 years Cathy Rush has defined the summer day camp experience for young children. This new camp will be supervised by Rush herself, the Naismith Hall of Fame basketball coach with more than 40 years of traditional summer camp expertise and subject of the recent film, “The Mighty Macs.”
Rush Day Camp, being offered exclusively at Sarah Lawrence for eight weeks starting June 24, 2013, and running through August 16, 2013, is being labeled “an elite day camping experience” for children ages 4 to 13. A special introductory rate for one-week participation is $325 per camper for those who register by December 15, 2012. This includes a balanced curriculum from the arts to computers to science to sports, a 5:1 camper to counselor ratio, and a full schedule of events and classes that are sure to energize and excite even the most experienced day campers. Of particular note is daily pool time and daily swim instruction, all held at Sarah Lawrence’s Campbell Sports Center. “Swim instruction has been and will always be a critical component of our programs,” says Rush. “The opportunity to both build confidence and a paramount life skill will not be missed in my camps. This is why I place top emphasis on fitness and swim instruction.”
The daily schedule, while similar to traditional day camps, is interlaced with special exhibitions and experiences. From travelling science shows, music and art presentations to a visiting zoo, there are many distinct perks and 21st century technologies that set the Rush Day Camp experience apart from all others. “Our campers will gain exposure to a world of interests without ever leaving the Sarah Lawrence campus. Having field trip programs travel to our location, in my opinion, will be the best of all worlds,” says Rush.
Rush Day Camp has located this camp on the Sarah Lawrence campus in Bronxville, N.Y., this year as an expansion of a very successful Pennsylvania-based summer camp organization and experience. Started by Coach Rush, Future Stars Camps of Pa. has been looking for ways to build on its outstanding reputation as one of the country’s leading day camp innovators. “The Rush Day Camp concept genuinely is exciting for me,” states Rush. “I am a firm believer that the key to developing children’s physical and interpersonal skills to the fullest is by strengthening their confidence and self-esteem. Our camps are organized to do just that, and I could not be more pleased with the results.” To demonstrate this point, Rush will be shedding many of her administrative duties to devote her time to overseeing the day to-day operation and management of this expansion into the New York area. It is Rush’s hope that Rush Day Camp will become the country’s model summer camp program for years to come.
“It’s important for kids today to develop relationship skills as well as social experiences,” says Rush. “We stress working together, group dynamics, and having fun.” To learn more or to enroll a member of your family, visit www.rushdaycamp.com or call 888-475-3445.
