MTV's "Jersey Shore" star Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi made a visit to White Plains to autograph copies of her book, Gorilla Beach, at the Barnes & Noble Booksellers City Center on Saturday afternoon. Lights Camera Action as Film Festival Hits Eastchester HS

The 9th Annual Eastchester High School Film Festival will take place Friday May 18 at 7pm and the free event has in years past showcased students who have gone on to work in Film and Video.

In 2004, a relatively unknown teacher from Queens came to Eastchester High School, hoping to make use of the communications systems that were already in place on the cable access channel run by the school and to create a new magnet program that allowed High School students to create and direct their own original short films and videos. Michael Goldstein was instantly hired on as the district's Media Production Specialist and in the process, Eastchester High School began a program that has changed the lives of hundreds of students over the years, giving them another direction to point their careers towards and allowing Goldstein to share his passion for film making with his students. "The cool thing about film making is that it has not …

About Town

About Town: Stalking Tina Fey in Bronxville

And finding a real local star in the process…

After a morning filled with conference calls, we headed into the Village yesterday at lunchtime to grab some food and check out the filming of “Admission” at Value Drug and Womrath on Pondfield Road. Bringing along a telephoto lens, just in case, we stopped into Park Place for bagels, two-year-old in tow, before settling onto the bench outside Lange’s, before heading across the street to join the handful of paparazzi waiting to pounce on Fey when she exited the shoot. These guys are hardcore.   While local kids waited outside for a glimpse of the popular 30 Rock creator and actress, one photographer monitored the on-set radio communications through a portable scanner, and kept the rest of us apprised of Fey’s movements.  Now you know how…

If Tina Fey has anything to do with the direction of the film, Bronxville will be portrayed as a provincial, closed minded little village.   more ›

In Photos: Movie Shoot in Bronxville

Despite the damp and dreary conditions, Pondfield Rd. is getting a touch of Hollywood sunshine today as the movie shoot for "Admission" comes to town. Be sure and add your photos!

Despite some of the headache the decreased parking spaces and congestion in the village may have caused some people, most in the village were excited and flocking to the stretch of Pondfield Rd. from Slave to the Grind to down past Cedar St. as the movie production "Admission" filmed in the village today. Be sure and add your photos from the movie shoot as I am sure many of you will be taking your IPhone's out to capture a shot of the production and perhaps a glimpse of the movie's principal actors Paul Rudd, Tina Fey or Michael Sheen.

Challenge Camp in Tuckahoe in Their 32nd Year of Summer Fun

For over three decades now, Camp Director Carole Berman has provided kids Pre K - 9th grade with an array of summer camp options that not only provide fun but memorable learning experiences.

Imagine you're trying to figure out options for your son or daughter's summertime experience and nothing in the Westchester area is offering exactly what you are looking for.  For Challenge Camp Director Carole Berman, this was exactly the case in the Summer of 1981, when she bravely decided to start her own camp, not only for the benefit of her children, but for others in southern Westchester. What began as a humble endeavor with 150 students has now seen an entire generation of Westchester kids, all having fond memories of their days at Challenge Camp creating projects, making new friends and learning more about the world around them in one day than they would inside of a classroom. "I remember Joe came home and told me that we had to …

About Town

About Town: Songs of Freedom in Bronxville

Sarah Lawrence students, special guests give rousing performance at Bronxville Library.

Yesterday morning at this time, we were driving around Little Rock, Arkansas, listening to Tony Joe White’s classic folksy, bluesy Poke Salad Annie, which hit the charts in 1969, when we remembered to recap for y’all (sorry, takes a while to get out of the system) last week’s performance of “Freedom Songs of the 60’s” at the Bronxville Public Library.  According to Friends of the Bronxville Public Library Board Member Bob Scott, the event was a big hit, with about fifty locals in attendance.   Students from Sarah Lawrence’s Music Program performed classic anthems from If I Had a Hammer to Turn, Turn, Turn. In addition to the students, special guest for the evening’s concert were Nehemiah Luckett and Sean Jackson.  Luckett, a professional…

Last Chance: May Day Celebration Ideas by Martha Stewart

Each year, millions of people celebrate "May Day" which is today for those who were unaware and Martha Stewart gives some fun ways to engage in May Day fun.

Going back all the way to days of ancient Rome and ancient Greece, the Springtime festival has its roots in Celtic and Germanic festivals of old and is also associated with the old Pagan calendar as the halfway mark on the year. Traditionally, one of the main associations with the holiday, especially in England and even here in the U.S. is a Maypole, made from a tree such as birch and then decorated so that people from your town or village can dance and play around the pole. Mayday celebrations are widespread throughout the country and even in Westchester, like this one that Patch attended last year at Davenport Park in New Rochelle where there was music, the Maypole and even wild birds! But you don't have to leave the confines of your …

About Town: "Staging Our Future" in Bronxville

Bronxville PTA raises $470,000 at a benefit to rebuild the Bronxville School Auditorium."

“A huge, smashing success!” That was how one Bronxville School parent described the festivities at Siwanoy Country Club last Saturday because in a single night, the “Staging Our Future” benefit raised $470,000 towards rebuilding the school’s auditorium, which, as you can see in this video, is in major need of repair. Event co-chairs Louise Parzick and Priscilla Newman put together a heck of a show – the evening kicked off with music from the school’s a-cappella group, SHA!cappella, who serenated guests as they arrived and quickly packed the venue – 550 tickets were sold in total.  Later, Class of 2011 alumnae Lydia Ciaputa and Hannah Geiling, accompanied by  Jonathan Faiman on piano, entranced the crowd with songs from the musical “…
