Viewfinder: Bistros
We took a closer look at some of the most popular bistros in Eastchester, Bronxville and Tuckahoe.
"The word 'bistro is French,'" says Jacqueline Huchet in a thick but beautiful French accent. "A true bistro is a small place, family owned and run. My husband is in the kitchen, my daughters help out."
Huchet and her husband, Joel, are the owners of Jackie's Bistro in Eastchester. Walk by it and you will have no doubt as to what type of food and atmosphere awaits inside. Most likely, you will recognize it by Joel's collection of roosters, one of which decorates the outside window, many of which decorate the interior.
On the other side of town, An American Bistro is run by Robert and Denise Horton. This, well, American bistro, serves up imaginative American cuisine, and features several sectioned off rooms decorated with festive murals.
A little further down the road is Kraft Bistro in Bronxville, which serves a menu of Eurasian and other international plates. The place has an intimate, rustic feel to it, and is part of a budding "bistro scene" in the Village, which includes a Japanese and Italian establishment as well.
