Tuckahoe HS' Class of 2012 Promising Students

With the school year drawing to a close, here is a look at the accomplishments of just a few of the 57 total students bidding farewell to the school.

 

As with any graduating class, several students rise to the top, achieving academically as well as through sports, music and art.  The following are just a sample of some of these high achieving students from :

  • Lauren Piacquadio - Class of 2012 Valedictorian

The 2012 class Valedictorian, Lauren Piacquadio graduated with an overall average of 97.20 and a GPA of 3.85.

While at Tuckahoe, she was the Treasurer of the G.O., a member of the National Honor Society, Interact Club, Varsity Club, Chorus, Tech Crew, Images Literary Magazine, Jazz Co, Prom Committee and Volleyball team.

Her numerous awards include: Italian Heritage & Culture Award (2010), Italian 3 Highest Average Award (100 averages each quarter and a 100 on the Italian Regents exam) (2010), Principalʼs List quarterly (2010), Italian 11 Highest Average Award (2009), High Honors award quarterly (2009) and she was chosen as a student ambassador to attend the Holocaust and Human Rights Education Center (HHREC) Human Rights Workshop for Students Leaders (2009).

In the fall, she will be attending Fordham Universityʼs Gabelli School of Business.

  •  Ian Sacks - Class of 2012 Salutatorian

Ian Sacks has added great value to the Tuckahoe community with both his academic achievements and contributions to the athletic department. He scored 90+ on all Regents examinations, and achieved a 97.16 overall average (3.88 GPA).

He was student statistician on four athletic teams and often took on the role of manager. Ian received a prestigious Deanʼs Scholarship at Iona College, where he will be attending in the fall.

  • Parandis Najati

Parandis transfered to Tuckahoe High School the beginning of her junior year. With an average of 100.30 and GPA of 4.07, many of Parandisʼ teachers at Tuckahoe have noted that Parandis is one of the top students they have worked with in their career.

Prior to coming to Tuckahoe she was on the Math Club, Debate Club, Cross Country and Key Club. Additionally, once coming to Tuckahoe she joined the High Schoolʼs Science Olympiad team, and won an award for the research she conducted and presented at the Westchester Engineering and Science Fair.

She was also part of the yearbook staff and National Honor Society, and has donated over 400 hours to community service work. Parandis excelled in the sciences, and plans to pursue this path as she continues her education. In the fall, she will be attending Stonybrookʼs Honors College, due to their offerings in her chosen field of study.

Dr. Edward J. Reilly, Tuckahoeʼs Superintendent of Schools, stated that, "these outstanding students are but a few representatives of an overall group of high school seniors who achieved accolades in numerous school related activities over the course of their four years at Tuckahoe High School."

Athletes were also highly successful for the Tigers, with NY State baseball and football champions (2011) and NY State basketball champions (2012). There were Westchester Science Olympiad winners in each of their four high school years as well.
