Three Students Recognized As Merit Scholars at EHS

Three seniors at Eastchester High School, Jennifer Cimons, Grant Cohen and Humayra Mayat have been named Commended Students by the National Merit Scholarship Program.

 

Acknowledged as a grand academic achievement, three Eastchester High School students have been named Commended Students in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program

Commended students placed in the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the competition and the students are Jennifer Cimons, Grant Cohen and Humayra Mayat, all college bound seniors.

“I'm so pleased the three fine Eastchester High School seniors were honored as Commended Students through the National Merit Scholarship Program," remarked Principal Dr. Jeffrey Capuano who continued that, "not only are Jennifer, Grant, and Humayra excellent students, but they are kind and decent individuals who add much to our school community.”

Cimons would like to major in Biochemistry at her future college and she has been an active member of the Human Rights club since 10th grade, acting as treasurer in her junior year.  She also enjoys tutoring students in all areas of science.

Cohen hopes to study Economics or International Relations in college and has been an active member of the Spanish Club since 10th grade. 

He has also been a member of the Going Green Club, serving as treasurer in 11th Grade and Cohen is passionate about his membership on the Academic Challenge Team.

He holds the position of Co-President this year and is responsible for organizing teams and mentoring new members.

Mayat moved to Eastchester in the spring of her Junior year and since then she has adapted well according to her teachers.

Back in New Hyde Park she was VP of the Foreign Language Honor Society, Editor of the student life section of the school newspaper, co-founder and VP of the Muslim Students Association, VP of Mathletes and a peer leader.  Mayat is interested in studying medicine next year in college.
