Adopt a Cat Free From Local 'No Kill' Animal Shelter
For a limited time, you can adopt a cat free from Pets Alive Westchester in Elmsford.
Pets Alive Westchester knew how to pull on animal-lovers' heart strings when they sent a notice about free cat adoptions attached with this photo of an adoptable feline.
For a limited time, Pets Alive Westchester (formerly the Elmsford Animal Shelter) will waive all adoption fees for cats.
Pets Alive Westchester is hosting the “free cat adoption event” to highlight the many different breeds of cats.
The shelter promises that all cats adopted from Pets Alive Westchester are spayed/neutered, up to date on shots and micro chipped.
Although the adoption fee is waived, Pets Alive Westchester has not changed the adoption screening process—to make sure all "parents" will provide adequate homes for their pets.
“We make a promise to all of the animals at Pets Alive Westchester-a promise for life. And that doesn’t end when they find a new home. We find them the best possible home-one that will last a lifetime” says Executive Director Joy Sarnelli Carson.
If you would like to help the cats but cannot adopt, you can also become a monthly cat sponsor or a volunteer.

I tried to adopt a cat at the Elmsford Animal Shelter and was denied because I have always let my cats outside. My last cat lived to be 19, so obviously I am a caring owner. Unless they have changed their policy, they will not approve adoptions if you plan to let your cat outside.

I wouldn't let you adopt either. You just happen to be very lucky that your cat did not meet a terrible fate from being outside. Is it possible your cat did not wander far from the front porch? They can meet up with a rabid squirrel or racoon or other sick animal/bird or car/truck out there. Why take the chance? I have 4 cats who all live inside and I wouldn't think of letting them wander away. I have seen too many kitties who have been killed by cars. It is commendable that you told the truth to the shelter, thank you for that.

They should have let you adopt. If they have cats that need a home there is nothing wrong with having them live outside. Growing up I had three cats, all lived outside, but they knew where their home was and they were sheltered and fed and loved. They all lived long lives.

This shelter is fantastic! We adopted both cats and a dog, and we love the people who run the place. All animal lovers should check it out!

We owe so much to Elmsford Animal shelter for the years of love we received from our cat Chloe and now we have a "grandpuppy" from there that continues to entertain the whole family whenever we are together. Thank you Pets Alive for your caring for animals that have nowhere to turn! You have given them wonderful homes.

Living outside is an upgrade to living in a cage for a cats life!
