About Town: Winning in Indy, Punting on Palmer

The Giants Win, Construction Delays on Palmer, and did Eastwood Endorse President Obama?

One of the best Superbowls in recent history culminated last night with NFL Commissioner and Bronxville resident Roger Goodell presenting the Lombardi trophy to the New York Giants.  It was a great game, and for once the focus was on the field, versus on the commercials, which were anything but inspired.

Our female friends loved the David Beckham spot for H&M, and Fiat made a nice splash in the U.S. market with it’s seductive intro to the Abarth, but the surprise of the night came from Clint Eastwood, who’s “Halftime in America” ad for Chrysler couldn’t have been any better of an endorsement for President Obama if it had been written by David Axelrod himself.

Upon his return from Indianapolis, Goodell will find himself fighting the same traffic on the west side of town as the rest of us are.  That Palmer Avenue construction, originally slated to be completed at the end of January, drags on.  “Drags” is actually a bit of an overstatement, as we haven’t seen any actual work being done on the site in several days now.   Looks like somebody took a knee on fourth down.

The detour along Pondfield West did give us the chance, though, to spy a new deli going in at the old Mike’s Deli/Tramezzini space.  “Bronxville Castle Deli” is the new entrant in a sweepstakes that has yet to see a winner in the five years we’ve lived in the area.

Back to winners – congrats to the Giants and their fans.  The parade is tomorrow at 11 a.m. through the Canyon of Heroes.  Should be an interesting commute into the city!
