About Town: Still Rising at Sarah Lawrence

Sarah Lawrence duo continues ascent in film world.

Nearly two years ago, about how Gary Ploski and Ali Berman met at , and began collaborating on film projects, he as an actor, she as an Eco/Sustainability Planner.  Oh, and they also got married.  At the time, they were working on pre-production of a film called “Rising Star” which struck us as apropos for the talented duo.

Fast forward to this Friday, and Rising Star will make its Connecticut premier at that state’s science center in downtown Hartford, the city which provides the backdrop for the film, which focuses on the balance between work and life.   If you haven’t already seen the trailer, just click here to check it out.

Although Rising Star has been a primary focus for the couple, that hasn’t stopped them from collaborating on another project – this time with Gary behind the camera as director of a really neat little film short called “quiet de luxe” which was shot for the NYC 48 Hour Film Festival this past June.

We screened the film and found it engaging and thought-provoking.  Without giving too much away, it’s about a teenaged girl who uncovers a very special typewriter.  Check out a teaser here, but if you want to see the full length version, be sure to put the Village of Brewster Food and Film Festival on your calendar for September 1st.

Although we can’t fast forward another couple of years, watch this space at that time, as you might well be reading about Gary and Ali walking down the red carpet at the 86th Academy Awards.
